First person shooters are one of the most popular video game genres in gaming today. With a plethora of options, gamers have a wide range of choices on any platform. Many of these games have jumped started platforms (think Halo and Xbox) and spawned a multitude of knock-offs. The following are a list of popular shooting games assorted by platform.

Xbox, PS3

What keeps gamers coming back to the Xbox 360 and PS3 isn%u2019t the graphics, it%u2019s the shooters. Most PC players will play games on these platforms because of their versatility and overall experience with larger monitors and bigger online games.

Halo: The franchise that started it all for Microsoft. Both Halo and Halo 2 were staples for the Xbox system and with Halo 2 leaving gamers with a cliffhanger; Halo 3 became that much bigger. It not only became the game that put together all the answers, but it helped launch Xbox 360 and convinced a lot of people this system was worth every penny, even with the red ring of death.

Uncharted: In a way, Uncharted became PS3%u2019s answer to Halo, but it really didn%u2019t want the honor. It has respectable online play, but really is more about storyline than anything. In fact, Uncharted really didn%u2019t become a massive hit until the release of its predecessor, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Wii, PC

-Metroid Prime: Based off the popular 80s game, Metroid was never a shooter game like you%u2019d see today. Prime truly combines story and shooting into one solid game. With an average online community, -Metroid Prime puts its focus into its plot.

-Duke Nukem: Duke Nukem might just be considered one of the founding fathers of the shooting genre. After being in development for nearly 13 years, Duke Nukem Forever looks to bring back the shooting trophy to the PC platform where many say only true shooting games can exist.

All in all, shooting games have proven prosperous on any platform they run on and can have high replay value with a strong multiplayer community.
